Rib Forge Studio

Sketch custom pottery ribs easily — no CAD experience needed.

Draw a rib from scratch in your browser, or trace a real form when it helps. Adjust bevel, finger hole, thickness, and clay shrinkage, then export the STL or order a printed rib.

Built for potters who want custom tools fast, not a complicated design workflow.

Why Potters Use It

Turn any shape idea into a working rib faster.

Sketch first when you know the shape you want, trace only when a real form gives you a useful starting point, then tune the clay-facing details that make the rib work.

Sketch from scratch

Start with a freehand profile and shape the rib you actually want.

Draw the curve you have in mind without needing CAD experience or a complicated setup.

Trace when it helps

Use a mug, bowl, existing rib, or paper sketch when a real form is useful.

Bring in a starting shape only when it saves time or helps you match a form you already like.

Tune and reuse

Adjust bevel, finger hole, thickness, and shrinkage, then save variations for future forms.

Refine the rib for the clay body and workflow you use most, then come back to make quick variations later.

How It Works

From shape idea to usable rib in four steps.

01

Sketch the rib shape

Draw the profile you want from scratch, or start from a traced form if that is easier.

02

Tune the working details

Set the bevel, finger hole, thickness, and shrinkage.

03

Review the finished rib

Inspect the saved snapshot and measurements before ordering or downloading.

04

Get the rib your way

Purchase the STL or order a printed rib.

Who This Is For

Made for potters who want repeatable forms and reusable tools.

Rib Forge Studio helps potters sketch custom tools quickly, reuse good forms, and contribute useful community ribs that earn reward credits toward future studio purchases.

Potters making repeatable forms

Dial in ribs for mugs, bowls, and favorite profiles.

Sketch the rib you need, refine the edge and shrinkage, and come back later when you want a small variation.

Studios and classrooms

Create teaching ribs and demo tools without teaching CAD first.

Start from a sketch or sample form, build a clean rib, and reuse it across demos, workshops, and class projects.

Design contributors

Share useful rib designs and earn credits toward your own tools.

Publish community designs that help other potters, then earn reward credits that reduce future STL exports or printed rib orders.

Pricing

Simple pricing for custom ribs and shared designs.

Choose the format you want. Reward credits apply at checkout and come from community design contributions, not direct seller payouts.

STL export

$1 per STL

Export your custom rib as an STL and keep it available in your account for future downloads.

Printed rib

Made-to-order print

Order a printed rib when you want the finished tool without printing it yourself.

Community designs

Fixed $1 STL downloads

Shared designs in the community library always cost $1 per STL.

Reward credits

Earn credits and apply them at checkout

When someone buys a design you published, you earn 10 reward credits. Credits can reduce or fully cover eligible STL exports and printed rib purchases.

Printed rib shipping and fulfillment details appear during checkout so the core choice stays simple up front.

Questions

What potters usually ask first.

Do I need CAD experience?

No. Rib Forge is built so you can sketch and refine custom rib shapes quickly, even if you have zero CAD or 3D design experience.

Can I trace an existing rib or pottery profile?

Yes. You can trace a mug, bowl, existing rib, or paper sketch when you want to start from a real form, but you can also sketch a rib from scratch.

Can I earn credits from designs I publish?

Yes. Publish a useful design in the community library and you earn 10 reward credits whenever someone buys the $1 STL.

Can reward credits cover a full STL or printed rib purchase?

Yes. Credits work like store credit at checkout. 100 credits = $1.

Can I order a print if I am outside the U.S.?

Not yet. Printed rib orders are U.S.-only for now, but STL downloads are available anywhere.

What is an STL file and why would I need it?

An STL file is the standard 3D model file most 3D printers and print services use. You would need it if you want to print the rib yourself, send it to a local or online print service, or keep a reusable digital copy for future prints. If you order a printed rib from the studio, you do not need to handle the STL yourself.

What happens after I purchase an STL?

The STL is added to your account so you can download it again later without repurchasing it.
